13th Annual Scholarship Program


About Our Scholarship

Garden Island Federal Credit Union wants to help the youth of our credit union in pursuing higher education with our Scholarship Program. Garden Island FCU will be awarding three (3) $1,000.00 scholarships to graduating high school seniors. Only those applicants who have submitted all the required documentation by the stated deadline will be considered eligible candidates for the award. The scholarship funds must be used to pay for educational expenses such as tuition, books, room and board, fees, and supplies. If the student does not enroll in the 2024 Fall semester, the scholarship funds must be returned.


Eligibility

  • A member in good standing of Garden Island Federal Credit Union

  • Graduating high school senior enrolling full-time in any accredited college, university, or trade school in the 2024 Fall semester

  • Be willing to have their picture published


Scholarship Criteria

Each applicant must include each item below to meet the criteria of a completed application.

  1. Current Official High School Transcript including Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT) or American College Test (ACT) score results.

  2. Two (2) letters of recommendation that may come from the Principal, teacher, school counselor, employer, religious leader, or any individual not related or living with you.

  3. Essay or Personal Statement up to 500 words on why you are choosing your particular field of study and how Garden Island Federal Credit Union’s scholarship will help you pursue this profession.

  4. Completion of the following Scholarship Application. Scholarship recipient will be selected based on the criteria of financial need (35%), academics (25%), personal essay (15%), school activities, community service and achievements/awards (15%), and letters of recommendation (10%).

  5. Parent’s tax return. A copy of the Adjusted Gross Income page only.


Selection of Recipients

A Scholarship Committee as appointed by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Garden Island Federal Credit Union will examine all application materials submitted by each applicant and will make a final selection of the scholarship recipients. The Scholarship Committee will base its decisions on the entire record of each applicant. Scholarship recipients will be notified in April 2024. All other applicants will be notified by mail of the outcome of the selection process. All scholarship recipients must announce the school they plan to enroll in at the time of notification.


Awards

The scholarship awards may not be transferred or changed, except at the sole discretion of Garden Island Federal Credit Union. There will be no cash equivalent prizes awarded. Scholarship recipients are contingent upon full compliance with these official rules. The Scholarship Award will be in the form of a check made payable to recipient’s name and the name of the school the recipient has enrolled in.


Privacy

By submitting an application, you acknowledge that Garden Island Federal Credit Union may call and/or send you information regarding its 13th Annual Scholarship Program.


Publicity

Portions of the scholarship recipients’ application, including the written response submission, may be posted on the Garden Island Federal Credit Union’s website, or used in other marketing materials, without further compensation or notice to the winners. Scholarship recipients agree that Garden Island FCU may use his or her name in any and all media for the purpose of advertising and promoting the Scholarship Program, credit union or any other promotion.


Ownership

By submitting an application, you acknowledge and agree that Garden Island FCU will own your application, including your written response submission. Each applicant hereby acknowledges they do not reserve any rights in and to the application and the written response submissions.
